Officer Reports

    – Treasurer report

        (Abbreviated report given by board member Corey Reichert due to Treasurer John Dragneff being unable to attend) 

            * Currently $12,000 in the account.

    – State Director Report (Tyler McAlister)

            * Report given on state legislative quarterly meeting (aka Boots on the Hill) Tyler along with other SCCA officers attended.  Meetings 

               were held with various state government officials including Representative John Temple

            * Florida T.E.A.M. (Tax Exempt Agriculture Materials) cards are now available to be applied for. These cards cover a multitude of          

               agricultural products and eliminate the need for filing tax exempt paperwork with individual vendors. Applications can be 

              found on the state department of revenue website.

    – County agriculture education update (David Swartzfager, Ag Ed Liaison)

            * Mr. Swartzfager gave a brief update on recent Ag Ed activity in the county  including reports on state and county fair youth 

               livestock exhibitors. The podium was then turned over to members of the South Sumter Highschool FFA officer team for a 

               report on activities within their chapter. This included summaries of the animal science, welding/shop, and biotechnology 

               programs at SSHS. 

            * President Jim McAlister spoke briefly to the officer team about their importance in the future of agriculture and relayed how 

               proud the SCCA and its members are of the hard work being put in by these youth.

            * President McAlister along with members of the board presented SSHS FFA with a $500 check to be used to support SSHS FFA.

 

Sponsor Presentation

    – Corey Reichert gave a brief presentation on Florida Farm Credit and different programs available to local farmers and ranchers.

       President McAlister thanked Farm Credit for providing the steak supper for the meeting.

 

Old Business

    – President McAlister gave a report on the events that have occurred since last quarterly meeting. These included:

        * Board members attended the Florida State Fair to support Sumter county youth showing beef cattle. SCCA provided

           FFA advisors with funds totaling $20 per exhibitor to provide lunch for the exhibitors.

        * SCCA assisted the Sumter County Cattlewomen with the first ever Sumter County Fair Exhibitor Barn Warming Party.

           Approx. 300 meals were provided to youth exhibitors, their families, and fair board members on weigh-in day. 

        * SCCA had a strong presence during the Sumter County Fair. This included a booth in the exhibit hall as well as having board

           members present at almost every livestock show in order to support youth exhibitors. SCCA also held its first ever beef raffle

           where tickets were sold for 3 prizes of local raised beef. 

 

New Business

    -Florida Cattlemen’s State Convention will be held June 15th-24th in Marco Island, Florida. Pre-registration is now open. President

       encouraged members to attend if possible. 

    – SCCA will be cooking meals for the up coming Seminole Wars Foundation Annual Convocation. This is a significant annual event 

       and will be hosted in Sumter County this year. SCCA will be cooking hamburger lunches for around 100 attendees. 

    – President McAlister brought forth the idea of hosting a Labor Day cookout and fun day for members and their families. Discussion

       on the subject was opened to the floor with significant support for the event being shown. The board will move forward with making 

       plans for the event.
